Adult Nappies?!

Japan is home to some of the oldest members of the human race. In fact, it is suggested that Japan has the world's highest proportion of the elderly in the world. According to "FACTBOX-The outlook for Japan's ageing population" by Reuters it is stated that:
-- As of 2005, 20 percent of Japan's people were 65 years or older, while the working age population aged 15-64 accounted for 66 percent and children aged 0-14 for 14 percent.
-- The population over 65 will jump sharply between 2012-2014, when baby-boomers born between 1947-1949 will turn 65.
-- The population over 65 will jump sharply between 2012-2014, when baby-boomers born between 1947-1949 will turn 65.
So, you can imagine that there would be a booming market for... adult nappies?!
Yesterday, Australian newspaper, The Age, reported in the article: "C'mon get nappy" that adult diapers have recently hit the catwalk in a Tokyo fashion show. According to leading organizer of the show, Kiyoko Hamada, “Diapers are something that people don’t want to look at.” However, the show attempts to make diapers more attractive so that "people can learn about them more easily."
The Japan Times news also presented further details of the event. Highlighting some of the activities such as performers presenting skits on how loved ones can tell the elderly of their families that they needed nappies.
As sales rapidly increase in Japan, perhaps we may see a trend in the future that adult nappies will become more readily accepted by the elderly across ocean boundaries?
